Our (college-age) babysitter showed up today wearing a big pink ribbon. I thought that was great. She said her housemates even bought a pink microwave (yes, a breast cancer special at I think Bed Bath & Beyond)!!

I do like the increased awareness October brings, but I'm not sure that I like how everywhere you turn there is somebody using the pink ribbon in their marketing. I keep meaning to look up what percentage actually gets donated to breast cancer research but don't know where to start. Anyway, thanks for your post. I enjoyed it.
Thanks for your nice comments about the blog, Jill.

Yeah, I'm really picky about which BC "products" get my attention or my $. But I'm not anti-pink, either. Just picky.

Oops. Just lost this comment, so retyping. Good grief...

Short story: Love your blog! Love your voice! Love your wit, intelligence and compassion.

Long story: I've been down the exact same road you have, with the exception of the oophorectomy. I couldn't write about it until just recently. When I decided I was ready, I googled "breast cancer blog" to see what other people were writing about and found your blog. Lovely! Thank you!

PS: Like you, I am a 3.5 in my reaction to the pink tsunami of October NBCAM...Happy that there is so much awareness; dismayed by the fact that many companies market "pink", but in reality give little to breast cancer awareness and research organizations.
