Community through Creativity

Yummy Yarn

On Saturday I learned how to do wet felting at Gate City Yarns. I made a little pig from a kit. I took a piece of pink wool and pulled it apart until it looked like cotton candy. Then, I wrapped it around a ping pong ball and started the wetting, soaping, rinsing, squeezing, rolling process. Eventually, the ping pong ball was completely and irrevocably encapsulated in the wool. And this involved water play!! How fun is that?

The Hirsch Wellness Network is sponsoring this workshop series as an opportunity to spend some time with breast cancer survivors (and their friends and family members) while exploring knitting, felting and spinning.

My friend Louise recently launched this non-profit organization and has dedicated it “to building a cancer support community connecting cancer patients and survivors, caregivers, family and friends.”

And she is off to a rockin’ good start. Although I admit that I am totally biased because (1) if you have been reading this blog for any length of time you know that this is so so so my type of thing and (2) I recently facilitated a journaling workshop for the organization and just loved every moment of the experience.

I love this site! I was diagnosed with BC at 40 and had an oophorectomy. Umm…I think they took my brain out at the same time!
