This morning, when the Obamas arrived at the White House to share coffee with the Bushes, Michelle Obama handed Laura Bush a present – a white box wrapped with a red ribbon.
Later, ABC News reported that the gift was a journal & a pen for Laura Bush’s memoirs. What a great gift!
To me, writing in a journal is like walking on the beach or eating good chocolate – an ordinary but rich experience. And this Inauguration Moment reminded me that it is never too late to journal about a part of your life. Usually, I journal about what is happening in my here-and-now but I have huge time gaps in my journals.
So, tomorrow morning (my normal journaling time) I am going to write about a memory. Which one? I don’t know yet. Wait – I’ve got it! I grew up in Baltimore and have many incredible memories of Washington DC. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Good to see you back here, Jayne. I hope you’re feeling well.
Journaling about special memories is something I need to do more of myself. Thanks for the nudge.
Hello Jayne. I was diagnosed with lobular carcinoma insitu in June of 2008. My treatment has been initial lumpectomy followed by bilateral mastectomy. I am currently going through reconstruction. I’ve recently had my tissue expanders replaced with saline implants. I too enjoy journaling. I’ve been thinking about starting a journal but, now I know I need to. I applaud your courage and pray that God will keep you healthy and well.
